Stormforge Beginner Guide: Co-op, Storms and Your First Base
Stormforge drops 1-8 players into the procedurally generated world of Sorana, where the storm that kills everyone else is also the only place worth looting. This starter guide covers how co-op actually works, how to read a storm, what to craft first and how the biome bosses gate your progression.
How Co-op Works (1-8 Players)
Stormforge is built for 1 to 8 players and the Steam page lists single-player, multi-player, co-op, online co-op and LAN co-op. The official description pitches complementary team powers — unlock powers that 'allow you to thrive as a team' rather than four players doing the same job.
Online play runs on Steam networking: Roboto Games switched the demo to Steam networking on August 27, 2026 to fix multiplayer connection issues, then added 'invite and join friends on Steam' in the September 16, 2026 patch. That means the practical way to start a co-op session is through your Steam friends list rather than manual IP entry. Dedicated server support has not been announced, despite the LAN co-op category on the store page.
Classes: Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Forager, Villager
Roboto Games ships five character classes — Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Forager and Villager — and the design intent is mix-and-match: you unlock abilities across classes and combine skills rather than locking into one archetype. The official description counts over 100 skills and 20+ active abilities, so choices are meant to be meaningful rather than cosmetic.
Read the two support classes carefully in co-op. Forager and Villager cover the gathering and base side of the loop, which is exactly what a team needs when the storm zones demand longer expeditions. In the current demo build, class and skill-tree changes have been part of the regular patch notes, so re-check your build after an update.
Reading the Storms
Storms are the resource engine and the main hazard at the same time. The official description states that storms are 'filled with key resources but fraught with danger', and the August 20, 2026 patch note confirms the scaling rule: storms get more dangerous the closer you get to the centre. Loot the rim early and only push inward once your gear is upgraded.
Storm types behave differently. According to the official gameplay trailer description, tornadoes fling rocks, trees and enemies into the air, while dust storms reduce visibility and damage the player. Gliding is a real traversal tool inside storms — the demo patches increased glider max speed and acceleration when pitching downwards, added the ability to open the glider in the camera direction, and fixed the glider getting stuck in a tornado.
Survival, Crafting and a Storm-Proof Base
The early loop is forage, craft, build. Official patch notes reference wood and planks, clay, copper ingots, hide and thick hide armour, staff ammo recipes, blast runes, and crafting stations such as the loom and sewing table, which unlock once you have a copper ingot. Item upgrades are a durability play: upgrading items increases durability, while the stat increase per upgrade was reduced in the September 1, 2026 patch.
Base building matters because the official description is explicit — 'Build up your base to withstand the power of the storms!' Build stability, roof pieces, snap points for stairs and furniture placement have all been patched repeatedly, so expect station placement and structure rules to keep shifting through Early Access. The store page also lists an included level editor and Steam Workshop, so community structures are part of the plan.
Bosses and Progression Structure
Roboto Games says the Early Access launch build includes 3 major biomes with unique bosses, character classes, unique storm mechanics, co-op PvE multiplayer, crafting, base building and a world with over 100 points of interest. Bosses are the hard gate at the end of a biome.
The named boss we know from official patch notes is the Squallreaver: it summons squallkins in multiplayer, and its stagger requirement was reduced in the September 4, 2026 patch. The community speedrun contest asked players to defeat the Squallreaver before a set goal from a fresh world, which makes it the current benchmark fight. The roadmap to 1.0 adds a new mountain biome and boss, new storm types, new character classes and expanded end game content.
Five Things To Do Before You Start
FAQ
How many players can play Stormforge?
From 1 to 8 players. The store lists single-player, online co-op and LAN co-op, and the official description says '8 player co-op gameplay' with complementary team powers.
How do I play Stormforge with friends?
Through Steam: the September 16, 2026 demo patch added the ability to invite and join friends on Steam, and online play has used Steam networking since August 27, 2026.
Does Stormforge have dedicated servers?
Not announced. Official material confirms Steam networking and a LAN co-op category, but Roboto Games has not published dedicated server support.

Warrior, Ranger, Mage, Forager and Villager. You mix and match skills across classes, with over 100 skills and 20+ active abilities in total.

Yes if you want a head start — the free demo covers the first 4+ hours, supports up to 8 players and includes a boss fight, and it is still being patched weekly.
